Antivirus software, Home edition is free.Office Applications
- e-Sword: e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible. e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free software package.
- OpenOffice, Portable OpenOffice: OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute.
- PDFcreator: PDFCreator easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.
- PrimoPDF: Convert to PDF from any application by simply 'printing' to the PrimoPDF printer - it couldn't be easier!
Web Apps
- FireFox, PortableFirefox: Firefox empowers you to browse faster, more safely and more efficiently than with any other browser.
- FireFox Extensions: These are some of the extensions that I like :O) - NoScript, Tabbrowser Preferences, PDF Download, IE View, FoxyTunes, Gmail Notifier, Firecastfox, All-in-One Gestures, Auto Copy, POTO Sidebar, Answers, Chinese-English-Japanese Character Hint Bar, DictionarySearch, Adblock, gTranslate.
- FileZilla: FileZilla is powerful Open Source FTP/SFTP client with many features. It includes a site manager to store all your connection details and logins as well as an Explorer style interface that shows the local and remote folders and can be customized independently.
Networking
- VNC: VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the "server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer anywhere on the Internet.
- Zone Alarm: ZoneAlarm is designed to protect your DSL- or cable-connected PC from hackers. This program includes four interlocking security services: a firewall, an application control, an Internet lock, and Zones. The firewall controls the door to your computer and allows only traffic you understand and initiate. The application control allows you to decide which applications can and cannot use the Internet.
- WinHTTack Web Site Copier: It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer.
Utilities
- SyncBack: SyncBack is freeware program that helps you easily backup and synchronise your files to: the same drive; a different drive or medium (CDRW, CompactFlash, etc); an FTP server; a Network; or a Zip archive.
- CDex: CDex is a tool to do all sorts of things audio related. Mainly focused on ripping and converting, things like turning your home Compact Disc collection into an mp3 collection on your hard drive become extremely easy.
- HijackThis: HijackThis should only be used if your browser or computer is still having problems after running Spybot or another Spyware/Hijacker remover. HijackThis is an advanced tools, and therefore requires advanced knowledge about Windows and operating systems in general. If you delete items that it shows, without knowing what they are, it can lead to other problems such as your Internet no longer working or problems with running Windows itself. I suggest to read and understand the following tutorials before attempt using HijackThis to fix any problem.
Note: It may be useful if you save the HijackThis log periodically. In that case, once you have problem with your computer, you can just compare the previous log and delete items that seems create problem :O)
